CGTN’s Sally Ayhan speaks with Scott Ratzan- the executive director of Business Partners to CONVINCE, editor-in-chief of the Journal of Health Communication: International Perspectives, and a distinguished lecturer at the CUNY School of Public Health and Health Policy – about what came out of the World Health Assembly on monkeypox, COVID-19 and more.
Ratzan discussed the “COVID-19 Pandemic Treaty” which emerged from the WHA and this year’s theme which was “Health for Peace and Peace for Health.”
“The resolutions that come out [of the WHA] are broad and long term, so how do we build universal healthcare for 1 billion people?” said Ratzan. “How do we make 1 billion people healthier? How do we give another 1 bilion people the ability to learn about health and also to be healthier? These are the kind of things that are broad-based policy initiatives and in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, we still have a lot of challenges that even out of Geneva when everybody gets together, we can’t seem to solve these right away.”
