McCann Global Health Immunity Charm Campaign: Childhood Vaccinations in Afghanistan

McCann Global Health partnered with Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Health to promote childhood vaccinations with The “Immunity Charm” Campaign.

Across the globe, there are still 19.4 million unvaccinated and under vaccinated children and that Afghanistan has the world’s worst child mortality rate. By working with Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Health, McCann identified the following challenges, strategy, and execution for promoting vaccination in children by creating The “Immunity Charm” Campaign.

The Challenge

How can we help parents and doctors maintain life-saving immunization records?

The Strategy

Our behaviors are rooted in tradition. Harness rituals to promote the protection of children’s health through vaccination.

The Execution

It’s common for infants to receive beaded bracelets for good luck, so we created one that also protects them from disease. This Immunity Charm is comprised of colored beads, each color representing a vaccine. With every immunization, doctors add the corresponding bead to the child’s bracelet.
